Malaysian-German Society turns 50!
Saturday, 7 April 2012

50 years ago today, the MGS Penang was founded by a handful of dedicated and far-sighted Malaysians and Germans residing in Penang. We look back on 50 years of promoting friendship and understanding between locals and Germans by organizing many cultural as well as social functions and providing German Language Courses. Over time, the society’s social and cultural commitment for cultural exchange and the fostering of mutual friendship has gained the respect and support of German authorities and the State Government of Penang alike.

To celebrate theses past fifty years the MGS will hold a special Open Day on 14th of April with a lot of attractions. German car manufacturers will showcase their latest models, there will be games and also a flea market and of course German cake and Bratwurst. Other special events will be our internal 50th Anniversary Celebration on 6th May and the annual Sommernachtsball on 19th of May at the E&O Hotel. There will be a lot of dancing as well as a delicious five-course dinner with a free flow of wine, beer and soft drinks.

The year 2012 will be a year of celebrations for our society as it is not only our 50th Anniversary but we will also hold our well-known Oktoberfest – which last year drew a very large crowd of around 2000 visitors on two consecutive nights – for the 40th time.
