Oktoberfest 2012
Friday, 26 October, 08.00 PM
The MGS Oktoberfest amazingly continues to grow so this year, for our 40th Oktoberfest we welcomed over 2,200 people into our spacious grounds filling it to the brim on both nights, Friday, 26th and Saturday, 27th of October. Luckily the two evenings were dry in an otherwise rather wet October 2012.
Both, the German Ambassador, H.E. Dr. Günter Gruber, and the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, graced the first evening of the Oktoberfest 2012. The Malaysian-German Society is very grateful to these esteemed gentlemen for their faithful and continued patronage.
The Reissner Band was there again, all the way from the white-and-blue heaven of Bavaria, Germany, to entertain the happy people of Penang. The traditional beer drinking and arm wrestling games attracted an enthusiastic response from the visitors. For the smaller folks the traditional children’s games organized by B.Braun and Robert Bosch presented challenges to their wits and dexterity again.
Brisk sales were made of merchandise imported all the way from Germany. The offerings this year included yodelling teddy bears wearing Lederhosen, keychains with Edelweiß motifs, special Oktoberfest aprons (they can miraculously provide hairy chests or generous cleavage to persons who otherwise wouldn’t have them), and of course the famous felt hats.
All in all it was as the Germans say, “Alle Jahre wieder”, “ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit!”
