Oktoberfest 2011
Wednesday, 26 October, 08.00 PM
For the first time in the history of the Malaysian-German Society, our Oktoberfest was held on two consecutive nights. It was a big success: The fun-filled event attracted about 900 visitors on Friday and more than 1,100 on Saturday evening.
Like last year, the Reissner Band, specially flown in from Bavaria, entertained the crowds with their beats of traditional and modern music. People loved to dance, ‘schunkel’ and sing along – it was a great atmosphere.
Many of the visitors were there for the German food: roast, sausages, meatloaf, Sauerkraut, dumplings, potato salad, pretzels, cakes and gingerbread hearts. And, of course, the beer – especially the German brands – was in great demand.
On Friday evening, Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, opened the event together with the German Ambassador, Dr. Günter Gruber, and the President of the MGS, Karl Ebinger. It was great to see how much fun the VIPs had tapping the first barrel of beer, conducting the band and dancing on the stage to create a cheery atmosphere.
